Elm Tree Farm Self Catering Cottages Cotswolds The Farm

Farm Activities

Our Northamptonshire holiday cottages are situated on a real working farm, so there’s always something going on, and plenty of animals to get acquainted with when you’re not out exploring.

We have 270 ewes who start having their babies in March every year. On average, each one will have two lambs but some may have up to four. The lambs are born in the sheds but quickly become independent and are out in the fields after just a couple of weeks. Sometimes the mothers are unable to feed all of their lambs so there are opportunities for guests in our holiday cottages to help bottle feed the orphan lambs in March and April.

We also have a small herd of red poll cows and also have chickens right next to the farmhouse. They’re always hungry and their eggs need collecting on a daily basis, so please do come and lend a hand. Stripe and Freddie are the youngest members of a family, our 2 puppies that came to live with us in spring 2020.

As well as looking after the animals, Geoff is busy all year round growing wheat, barley, linseed and oil seed rape. Harvest time is from July until September. We pray for sunshine and no rain at this time! Take a look at our gallery to see just some of the animals here at Elm Tree. They look forward to meeting you!
